Abstrak

This study aims to improve the understanding of the concept of solar energy among fourth-grade students at SD Kristen Werain through the application of smartphone-based audiovisual media. The research was motivated by students’ low comprehension of science material, mainly due to the dominance of conventional, abstract teaching methods. The method employed is collaborative Classroom Action Research (CAR) conducted in two cycles, involving all fourth-grade students as subjects. Research instruments included conceptual understanding tests, observation of student activities, and documentation. The results showed significant improvement: students’ mastery increased from 89% in the first cycle to 100% in the second cycle, accompanied by higher average class scores and increased active participation. The use of smartphone-based audiovisual media proved effective in visualizing abstract concepts, boosting student motivation, and enhancing engagement in learning. These findings confirm that digital technology-based media innovation can serve as a contextual, interactive, and relevant solution for science learning, particularly for digital-native students in non-urban areas. Further exploration is recommended for other science topics and aspects of students’ character development.
